Catching up

To say this has been a busy summer would be an understatement. The big news for me personally is that I bought a house at the beginning of the summer and have been moving. This is my first time as an actual homeowner, so it’s quite an adventure.

While moving, I finished work on Tales of the Talisman volume 6, issue 1 and shipped it out to subscribers and contributors. You can get the scoop on the issue at www.talesofthetalisman.com. I also finished work on the anthology Space Horrors and turned it into the publisher. I’ll have a post with more details about the antho soon.

In the meantime, I wanted to take a few minutes and remind people that I will be at Bubonicon in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the end of the month. My schedule is below. Also, I have some news from the Science Fiction Poetry Association that might be of interest.

Bubonicon Schedule

As mentioned above, I’ll be one of the participants at Bubonicon 42 in Albuquerque, New Mexico from August 27-29, 2010. It will be held at the Albuquerque Grand Airport Hotel. Visit the Bubonicon 42 site for more information about the convention itself and all the events they have there. I have a relatively light schedule this year. The panels I’m on are:

• The Social Network: Technology Changes from 5-6pm on Friday, August 27 in the Main Room.
• Steampunk Today: An Update on the Subgenre from 12-1pm on Saturday, August 28 in the Main Room.
• We Are Not Alone: Resurgence of Little Green Men from 10-11am on Sunday, August 29 in the Main Room.

You will also be able to find me at the Author’s Afternoon Tea from 1:30-3:20 on Sunday across from the ConSuite and, when I’m not on a panel, I’ll likely be manning the Hadrosaur Productions table in the Flea Market. Hope to see you there!

Science Fiction Poetry Association Seeks Nominations for the Dwarf Stars Award

Dwarf Stars is the Science Fiction Poetry Association’s yearly edited anthology of short-short poetry. The SFPA is trying to find the best speculative short poetry of 10 lines or less published in 2009. They define “speculative” as “science fiction, fantasy, horror, mythic or any combination or variation of the above.” The deadline for nominations for 2009 poems is August 31, 2010.

This is what you can do to help.

1. Send SFPA your 2009 short poems of 10 lines or less.
2. Send SFPA recommendations of 2009 short poems of 10 lines or less that you’ve read and think are deserving along with publication information and the e-mail addresses of the poets, if you have them.
3. There is no limit to the number of poems you can send.
4. You do not need to be a member to send poems/recommendations.

Send these poems to SFPA at dwarfstars@sfpoetry.com. You do not need to be a member of the Science Fiction Poetry Association to send poems/recommendations. Please include the words “Dwarf Stars Submission” in the title of the e-mail.

SFPA is trying to gather the largest pool of quality 2009 published 10-lines-or-less poems possible so they can select poems that stand out above the rest and are reflective of 2009 in very short poetry.
